Reel Theatres Corporation understands the importance of giving back to the community we serve and being good stewards of the many valuable resources that Sevier County offers.
We consider our most important resource to be our youth. Thus, our primary support is to these future leaders of our community through the various programs within our county school system. In this past school year, we have provided over 500 movie passes as incentives to students at various schools to support reading programs, attendance programs, Junior Achievement, D.A.R.E., and the countywide spelling bee. We also support the Sevierville Housing Authority in their efforts to reward the students of those tenants they serve.
Alzheimers is a debilitating disease and has effected and affected the lives of many people in our area. While Sevier County has over 800 persons diagnosed with Alzheimers, the disease touches the lives of at least two to three times that number in family and care providers. Reel Theatres has taken special interest in the local Alzheimers Association since 1995 and has participated in the Alzheimers Memory Walk for the past two years. Reel Theatres has also become a media partner by providing community awareness through the theatre slide show programming shown before each feature film. We have also donated movie passes for their use as prizes and incentives.
We are proud to assist the efforts of the Memory Walk held annually the first Sunday in October. The Memory Walk raises money to: 1) sponsor research to one day provide a cure, 2) provide a monthly support group, 3) provide caregiver training, 4) provide a chapter newsletter, 5) have a scholarship program and 6) provide a Helpline (423) 544-6464.
Reel Theatres also works to assist the March of Dimes in their
fund raising efforts. Theatre patrons helped raise
In the summer of 1997, Reel Theatres produced a benefit for the National Foundation To Protect Americas Eagles and raised $10,000 for this wonderful cause. Reel Theatres assisted this foundation in their efforts to build a new hack tower, which is where young eaglets are released into the wild. Jonathan Taylor Thomas, star of TVs Home Improvement and voice of Simba in Disneys The Lion King, was at Movies on the Parkway for the benefit screening of the Morgan Creek production of Wild America. Jonathan also visited with his fans in each theatre in support of this worthy cause.
Other notable contributions to our community include donations to the Dr. Robert F. Thomas Foundation, the American Heart Association, Shriners, the Sevier Humane Society, the Sevier County Aquatic Swim Team and various civic organizations.
